Prediction:
The Louisville Cardinals have not lost two games in a row since the 2012-2013 season when they were in the old Big East and won the NCAA Tournament. That is what is at stake this evening as the Cardinals try to shake off their previous loss. Louisville, who is fighting for a bye into the Quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament, was upset at home last Saturday by the NC State Wolfpack. The Cardinals offense was troubled on the day and shot 32.8% on the afternoon with stars Terry Rozier, Montrezl Harrell, and Chris Jones shooting a combined nine for thirty-two from the field. Jones ended up being the leading scorer on the afternoon as he bucketed twenty points in thirty-nine minutes of play. But there will be a difference from tonight and last Saturday's game and that is that Louisville will need to find a way to win without their third leading scorer. Yesterday, Chris Jones was announced as suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules "unrelated to basketball," which will take away his production for tonight's game against Syracuse. It is a done deal, this will be the first year the Syracuse Orange will not make the NCAA Tournament since the 2007-2008 season. The "Cuse" is really that bad this year? No, but past infractions that are currently being investigated by the NCAA provoked the university to self-punish themselves with no post-season play for the basketball team this season. The Orange are not even allowed to play in the ACC Tournament nor the National Invitational Tournament. It is truly a shame that Senior Rakeem Christmas will not be able to finish his collegiate career in the NCAA Tournament considering the great teams he has been a part of. Although Christmas will not play in the post-season, he has not allowed the fact to cause him to play worse as he is almost averging a double-double with only two of his games played this season ending in him having fewer than ten points. Now that is a good stat line! In addition, Junior sharpshooters Trevor Cooney and Michael Gbinije have increased their production to complement the team's attack around Christmas. Will tonight's game lead to a happy "Christmas morning" tomorrow or will Louisville send Syracuse on a two-game losing streak of their own? The way Louisvill players Montrezl Harrell and Terry Rozier played at home last weekend concerns me, but I believe both will look like their normal selves tonight in the Carrier Dome. So Louisville wins? Not so fast! Syracuse has way more bench depth than their opposition and a great rebounder in Rakeem Christmas that will be able to keep Harrell off the glass. Speaking of Rakeem Christmas versus Montrezl Harrell, that is my one on one matchup to watch as whoever has the better game for their team will lead his team to victory. Since the game is in Syracuse and they have more contributors than their oppoenent because Chris Jones is inactive, I believe the Orange will win in a close game that comes down to Louisville not being able to score enough in the end.

Prediction:
Who's ready for UFC Fight Night! Oh I am sorry, it is very easy to get a Cincinnati/Xavier game mixed up with an MMA fight considering the history of the rivalry. The relationship of Xavier and Cincinnati is one based on animosity as each plain out does not like each other. With that being said, I expect added adrenaline and effort to each player's performance on both sides. The Cincinnati Bearcats, who host tonight's game, come into tonight with the good record of 17-8. Although the record may indicate it, the path has not been easy for the Bearcats as earlier in the season Head Coach Mick Cronin was diagnosed with an arterial dissection in the back of his skull, which requires rest and low stress levels to heal properly. That meant Cronin would have to take a leave of absence for his head to heal properly leaving assistant coach Larry Davis in charge. Unlike some situations, Davis fitted in perfectly as he was able to lead his young team over the first-place team in the American Athletic Conference, the SMU Mustangs, during conference play. Oh and Cincinnati didn't do that only once but twice! Through the big-time victories, the young Bearcats have struggled against teams not from Dallas as they have five conference losses to date including a 50-49 defeat to Tulane, which turned a one-game losing streak into a two-game losing skid. Although one can make the case that Cincinnati should not have been in a tight game to begin with, a lucky blessing in the form of an attempt from eight feet behind the three point arc by Tulane's Jonathan Stark swished through the hoop to win the game for his team. In other words, it was an unfortunate break since every win counts when fighting for a NCAA Tournament berth. The only positive thing from the loss was that there is another  game after to win. While Cincinnati dropped a game at the buzzer, Xavier also lost their matchup in the Queen City on Saturday. Xavier was down by nine points to St. John's with exactly ten minutes left in the second half when, Jalen Richards scored six of his twelve points to narrow the Musketeers' margin to one point with five minutes remaining. Xavier was back in it! But the small deficit for Xavier was short-lived as Red Storm star Sir'Dominic Pointer outscored the whole Xavier team 9-5 leading to an eight point victory. Xavier big man Matt Stainbrook had a terrific game in the loss as he had seventeen points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Every point, rebound, and assist will be needed again tonight. The funny part is (although it does not surprise me) how different both teams' identifies are in contrast with one other. While Xavier is a team that can score the rock, but does not having a solid defense, Cincinnati is offensively challenged at times, but has a defense that allows only 55.2 point per game to opponents. Something must give! Since I am more of an offensive person myself, I have to go with Xavier considering all of the players that can score the basketball on their team. In addition, the Bearcats' youth has scared me away from picking them since their opponent has much more experienced. Putting the rivalry aside for a moment, this showdown is not just a non-conference game, but an NCAA Tournament play-in game of sorts since both of these teams are fighting for an NCAA Tournament berth. In my estimation, the team that comes out on top tonight will have another resumé win that boosts their chances of making the "Big Dance."

Prediction:
If Duke doesn't win this game and I pick them, I will probably never live this down. The greatest rivilary in college basketball opens a new chapter tonight as the North Carolina Tar Heels travel to Durham, North Carolina, to face off with the Duke Blue Devils in a battle of nationally ranked teams. The North Carolina Tar Heels come in on a bit of a skid after starting the conference season 8-1. The game that started the skid was against Louisville at the KFC Yum! Center. North Carolina was dominating early, but then the Cardinals came flying back and overcame a eighteen-point deficit to tie the game while forcing overtime. In overtime, the momentum was in the hands of Louisville and UNC eventually lost by ten. The defeat was heartbreaking and more came for the Tar Heels against Virginia and Pittsburgh. In addition, All-American point guard Marcus Paige has been dealing with plantar fasciitis, which could be a cause for his "let-down season." Nevertheless, other players like Sophomores Kennedy Meeks and Nate Britt and Juniors Brice Johnson and J.P. Tokoto have helped Paige and the Tar Heels contend this season by playing great in big games. Tonight arguably could be the biggest game of the season for North Carolina since it is one of two meetings against the Duke Blue Devils. Well, Duke is good again and they have three Freshman that will most likely all make it to the NBA. Although Duke did hit a rough patch in early January by losing to NC State and Miami since the two-game losing streak, the team is 8-1 with their only loss coming in South Bend, against nationally ranked Notre Dame. The Blue Devils are led by Player of the Year candidate Jahlil Okafor who is almost averaging a double-double in his first collegiate season. Actually, Okafor has not scored under ten points in any game this season! Duke doesn't just have Okafor though, but Senior Quinn Cook and Freshmen Tyus Jones and Justice Winslow who also contribute greatly to the fourth best team in the nation. Personally, I feel like tonight could be a game for the ages as both of these teams are great. Like I hinted at the beginning though, I see Duke winning, but for one reason: home-court advantage. If you know me, I hate Duke, but I know they will win because they have the best player on the court and are at Cameron Indoor Stadium. No matter who wins though, I will be happy because if Duke wins I predicted it and will look smart and if North Carolina wins, the team I hate the most losses.
